CRS in the Community – Green Halloween

Once a quarter, CRS seeks out a volunteer opportunity with an existing organization.  We spend half a day learning about and participating in a local cause.  This quarter, we are doing something a little different; we saw a need and initiated our own community project.

At two local daycares, we are launching a Green Halloween!   While there are many opportunities to green up Halloween, we are starting our transformation with a costume swap and plan to branch into other green ideas in following years.

A costume swap is exactly what it sounds like.  For about a week period, parents can drop off last year’s costume when they drop off Junior at the day care.  That costume is too small anyway and certainly isn’t worn out!  So, we want to share the cuteness and let another kiddo enjoy the fun.  The following week parents can do a little FREE costume shopping from among the previous week’s drop offs.

Such an easy little project boasts a lot of benefits

  • Less trash sent to the landfill
  • Saves parents time and money
  • Teaches our kids by example:  Reduce Reuse Recycle

Want to join us?

Think this sounds fun?  We urge you to do something similar at your local daycare or school!  Send us a note and we’ll give you the editable Publisher document to create your own flyer.

Have ideas?

We would love to hear about your ideas for other ways we can make Halloween less scary to our planet!  Please share them and maybe we can integrate them into next year’s project.
